Derek Dawson, M.D.

After leaving the University of Southern California for early acceptance to the Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, Dr. Dawson received his medical degree in 1980. He traveled to Howard University in Washington D.C. to complete an internship in Medicine and a residency in Ophthalmology. He became the Chief Resident of the Ophthalmology department in 1983 and was awarded Resident of the Year for most outstanding Physician in 1984. He became certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1986.

Dr. Dawson has been providing top-notch medical and surgical eye care for citizens of Lake County Indiana for over 35 years. He has also served as a surgical consultant to multiple private practices in the Chicagoland region and is currently provides ophthalmological services for the Illinois Eye Institute and the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Dawson’s mission is to continue to save and restore vision to those that are losing their sight.
